In speaking with Jacob Minkoff, one of the designers at Naughty Dog, some interesting facts came to light regarding Youtube SDK integration.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves ships with a “Cinema Mode” that allows players to save, edit, and share gameplay videos, but in development this mode also offered the ability to upload directly to Youtube from within the game.
“At one time there was a build with the Youtube API in there,” Minkoff stated. He then went on to explain that the Youtube API takes 11Mb of system RAM to run. Deemed to be too much of a demand on resources, this feature was eventually cut in favor of smoother gameplay.
Playing the full build of the game, it’s tough to argue their decision. The game runs absolutely beautifully. But this isn’t great news for anyone hoping for Youtube integration in future AAA games.

My only question for you Mix is one that has been bugging the crap out of me since they first started showing off Uncharted 2;
Does it still have the wonderful exploration aspect of the original game intact? Don’t get me wrong, the action in Uncharted was fun, but my favourite parts of the game were all about the running, jumping, flipping and climbing around ancient tombs and beautiful vistas. I really don’t want to see that lost in a sea of action and cinematics.
I’ll still love every second of the game no doubt, but I have a sneaking suspicion my favourite parts of the first game are a little lost here.
Rest assured, your fears are unjustified. I played at least 2 massive levels primarily focused on puzzles and exploration.
And massive is NOT an overstatement. I won’t go into specifics about these levels, but the surrounding environment in one gives a sense of scale unparalleled by any game I have ever played.
You suck! I had no idea you guys got free copies of the game. I’m jealous to say the least.
