At Nintendo’s press conference in Tokyo today, they announced a new handheld to be sold alongside the DSi – the DSi LL.

The DSi LL has a larger screen – 4.2 inches over the original 3.2 inch screen – which essentially almost doubles the viewable screen area of the DSi. Nintendo are gearing this new version of the DSi for customers who are looking to use the system for web browsing or media, as the larger screen area means larger fonts can be used for webpages and the like. However, the resolution has not changed form the original DSi, so this size increase doesn’t necessarily make things look any better, but it would definitely make things easier to see!

Personally, I think it’s time I started looking into picking up a DSi finally. I think I’d really enjoy that larger screen as my eyes get tired easily with my DS Lite’s tiny images.

Wii update 4.2 was released yesterday, with the release specifically targeted at shutting down systems running illegal homebrew applications using a modified console. For the most part, this update has been a success, though for the rest of you innocent Wii owners out there I warn you to hold off on updating your console for now.

The Nintendo Tech Support forums are currently flooded with posts from many unmodified Wii owners reporting that their console will no longer function since the update, stating that their console has been modified and will not boot anymore.

If you happen to be one of the unlucky who has had this issue happen to their mod-free system, Nintendo have issued a statement on the forums that you can send in your system for a free repair. Whilst the free repair is all well and good, this really sucks that the innocent users have to suffer because of a select few who have decided to circumvent the system.
