You know how usually by this time there’s a spanking hot new episode of Fall Damage ready to be cast upon your glorious earholes?

Well, sad news folks. It seems that the program we use to record crashed mid episode this week, so the resultant audio file is… well… nowhere.

We apologize for the unexpected week off, but we’ll be back next week for the next live show on Wednesday, October 6th at 6:30 CST on our Justin.tv page.

And if you think this sucks and wish to complain, consider poor forum fanatic Slither, who was in the right place at the right time this week to step in as a last minute fill-in for Aevan. His maiden voyage on the Starship Fall Damage shall never be heard.

Shed a single tear, fellow Fallites.

New Episode of King's Quest: The Silver Lining Released

Posted by mixmoff On September - 20 - 2010

The second episode of the freeware fan-made King’s Quest little-series-that-could was released to the interwebs today. Entitled “Two Households”, this episode continues to follow King Graham as he searches to free his children from a magically imposed slumber.

The Silver Lining has been praised widely, but perhaps most impressively it was endorsed by Roberta Williams herself as a true to the series continuation. You can download both the first two episodes for free at the official website.

Shadows of the Damned Announced As Suda51's Next Game

Posted by mixmoff On September - 15 - 2010

The long-rumored “Untitled Horror Game” from Grasshopper Manufacture that has been the brainchild of No More Heroes creator Suda51 and Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami has been named and trailorized at TGS.

Entitled Shadows of the Damned, the game puts players in the walking leather factory that is Garcia Hotspur.

When evil demonic creatures kidnap Garcia’s girlfriend, it’s up to him to travel to the City of the Damned to get her back. Aided by a former demon with the ability to transform into an array of vicious weapons, Garcia will once again take on the mantel of “demon hunter” and rip apart the horrifying forces of the underworld to protect what he loves most.

Also lending his talents to this venture is longtime Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka, who was announced to have joined Grasshopper Manufacture several months ago.

Devil May Cry Reboot To Be Handled By Heavenly Sword Developer

Posted by mixmoff On September - 15 - 2010

We didn’t have to wait long for the first megaton reveal of TGS. Capcom announced this morning that a new Devil May Cry is in the works. Apparently it’s a franchise reboot and they’ve tapped Ninja Theory (developers of Heavenly Sword and Enslaved) for the development.

The series has been a sort of limbo since DMC developer Clover Studios broke off from Capcom to form Platinum Games. Capcom has been loathe to trust western developers with major franchises since the sales failure of Grin-developed Bionic Commando and the subsequent tanking of new IP Dark Void.

While I loved Heavenly Sword and think Enslaved looks equally great, neither demonstrates the frantic speed we’ve come to expect from the DMC series. Still, if you were to have asked me yesterday my top studios to take over this series, Ninja Theory would be on the list…. albeit way behind Platinum Games.

It will be interesting to see more of this project, but put me in the “cautiously optimistic” camp.

Valkyria Chronicles 3 To Be Announced At TGS… For PSP

Posted by mixmoff On September - 14 - 2010

Valkyria Chronicles 3 rumors have been bouncing about like mad for the past couple of weeks, and Sega has been reliably hush hush on the matter. Adding fuel to those rumors today the table of contents for the latest issue of Famitsu was leaked, and it lists Valkyria Chronicles 3… for PSP.

But PS3 owners do have at least one positive take-away from this issue of Famitsu. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus appear in the list too, under PS3.

ICO/Shadow of the Colossus Pre-order on Walmart.com

Posted by Mephianse On September - 10 - 2010

Earlier today while browsing Walmart.com I came upon a curious entry for a Ico/Shadow of the Colossus pre-order! I haven’t been able to dig up anyone else offering a pre-order on this item. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus originally hit PS2 back in 2001 and 2005, respectively. The game’s designer Fumito Ueda, is currently working on his new PS3 title: The Last Guardian.

The listing states the game will be coming out 04/01/2011 and at a price of $39.82.  There have been numerous rumors stating that the HD re-release would be coming out around Q1 2011. If true the Collection would come out just in time to help promote The Last Guardian.

With all the success that the God of War HD collection had, it seems more then likely it IS coming out. I hate to say that this is confirmation but one can hope!

Head over to Eurogamer.net to see some stunning videos of  both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus being rendered in HD.

Final Fantasy XIV Fatigue System Has Gamers Outraged

Posted by Mephianse On September - 2 - 2010

Big news and controversy over Final Fantasy XIV’s “fatigue” system has spread across the internet. All this leading to complaints and even some apparent pre-order cancellations. If you haven’t heard Final Fantasy XIV includes a system which will limit the amount of experience you gain over time. This is based on a very convoluted threshold explanation that the game’s director, Nobuaki Komoto posted in the beta forums. The system is basically this: players can earn experience as long as they don’t exceed threshold limits. Once a threshold has been exceeded, experience earned is decreased, and they continue to decrease with every threshold exceeded. Eventually, you will earn no experience at all. These thresholds reset every week, and begins counting the moment you earn experience.

Though according to the explanation, decrease in experience also begins to recover when doing activities that don’t earn experience.

Its seems like to me Square-Enix is failing to see how MMO players play MMO’s, and then to limit that very same system seems rather ridiculous to me. Planning to charge full price for a game that you can only play some of the time seems rather atrocious. Is it just me or is this disconnected with how people actually play games?

As an MMO player what are your thoughts on this system? Want to discuss it? Head over to forums and let us know your opinion.

The new pricing for Xbox Live Gold membership hit the internet yesterday, and immediately a wall of grumbling went up from Camp Green. In the US, the new pricing shows an across the board increase; up $10 on the annual option.

Before you join the grousing too heartily, consider a few things.

1) It’s still the best service available.

The most common complaint seen so far is that the PS3 offers online gaming for FREE, so where does Microsoft get off charging at all, let alone charging more for their service? But there’s a reason we’re not all switching en masse to playing multiplayer primarily on the PSN. On XBL it is just easier to navigate, easier to communicate, easier to organize a group. Even Playstation’s paid option (PSN+) doesn’t offer the most needed features like cross game voice chat and static parties that makes Live the best.

2) Nobody pays full price.

With all the promotional offers and near constant discounts at Walmart or Amazon, almost no one currently pays the full $50 a year for Live. Sure this price increase will mean those discounted prices will rise some as well, but not for a long time. There’s already a sale on cards for $40 right now. Known price increases like this result in arbitrage in the marketplace, with patient opportunists snatching up product at a low price, and reselling for a slight profit once the prices are raised. We should continue to see significant discounts on XBL cards well into the new year.

3) This is good business.

It’s tough to separate our hobby from the business behind it. I know I often argue for how the artistic and creative aspects of this industry should outweigh the dollars and cents. But in this instance, we’re talking about the price of a service. We’ll find out soon if the market will bear this price increase, but my educated guess is that it absolutely will.

4) This is a preemptive move.

There’s extra subscription budget out there, but for how long? With more and more gamers paying for subscription services, it will get harder to make a price change like this in the future. Activision has been quite verbal in recent months about its desire to generate subscription revenue from its titles and their online play. No doubt this entered into Microsoft’s decision to try to capture some more of this revenue before gamers had one more subscription in their budget.

I’m not telling you not to complain… that’s 100% your right as a consumer. Just remember, if Microsoft has to choose between listening to your mouths or your wallets, they’ll choose wallet every time.

Gun Loco Appears to Have Guns, Be Loco

Posted by mixmoff On August - 16 - 2010

Today Square Enix announced a new third person shooter exclusive to the 360. Gun Loco takes place on a distant prison planet where the forgotten inmates fight amongst one another in an anarchic society. Gameplay description is surprisingly vague, but so far it’s looking like Twisted Metal…. without cars.

Featuring unique third-person, sprint-action shooter gameplay, players can assume the roles of a variety of unique and memorable characters in a game that redefines the run-and-gun shooter. While pursuing and being pursued by their opponents, players must make use of the sprint-action play by running, jumping, ducking and vaulting, using the environments to their advantage.

Ok so maybe Brink meets Twisted Metal… without cars.

The PSP sequel to the PS3 masterpiece Valkyria Chronicles is set to hit the North American PSN store later today. Due to be released at the end of the month, Valkyria Chronicles 2 marks a shift to handheld play with the stated intent of reaching a broader audience.

If you just can’t wait to experience high school kids fighting against ethnic cleansing by taking turns running towards each other and shooting around one another’s heads, now’s your chance to give it a test drive!
