Space Marine (War)Hammers Its Way Onto PC

Posted by mixmoff On July - 26 - 2010

Space Marine, the visually interesting but unfortunately named smasher/shooter from THQ isn’t just for consoles anymore. A press release went out this morning confirming the upcoming game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe will be making its way to the PC as well.

Combining intense melee and ranged combat, Space Marine puts players into the boots of one of humanity’s elite soldiers, genetically engineered and equipped with state of the art weapons and armor. Players are dropped right into the action as they battle to defend an Imperial Forge World, from an invasion by the savage and brutal Orks, using the most devastating weaponry mankind has at its disposal.

Jonathan Dowdeswell, General Manager of Relic Entertainment commented: “The loyal PC audience is incredibly important to us here at Relic so we are delighted to be able to announce the PC version of the game.”

Space Marine will be released worldwide for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and PC in early 2011.

Rumored for months, the crossover fighting games by two of the genre’s heaviest hitters were announced at Comic-Con this weekend.

Our biggest question after hearing the rumors was a simple one: 2d or 3d? Looks like we have our answer… and it’s both.

Capcom’s handling the Street Fighter X Tekken version, and it will be rendered lovingly in the waterbrush painted style of Street Fighter 4. Namco hasn’t shown anything of the Tekken X Street Fighter doppleganger, though word is we’ll see that game presented in Tekken’s familiar 3d setup.

So which one will you be getting? And will the Mortal Kombat franchise ever regain enough of a semblance of credibility to get their own shot at Capcom?

Alien Swarm in First Person

Posted by mixmoff On July - 23 - 2010

If the sheer number of posts about the game are anything to go by, Alien Swarm is taking Fall Damage by storm these days. Now fresh from PC Gamer we get this video, with a few nifty console codes that transform the top-down isometric view into first person.

For those who can’t squint their way to 20/20 vision, here are the codes from the video:

You have to go to Options > Keyboard > Enable developer console. Then hit ` (to the left of 1) and type:

Welcome Back Cole! inFamous 2 Gets a Re-Redesign

Posted by mixmoff On July - 23 - 2010

Despite inFamous 2 being one of my highlights from E3, the redesign of Cole was definitely a lowlight. Sure the original character wasn’t exactly… original. But after spending dozens of hours churning out a true superhero a lot of gamers felt let down seeing the “new and improved” Cole MacGrath Sucker Punch was trotting around. The character had gone from gruff messenger to frat boy faster than you could grind a train rail.

So imagine my excitement today to read IGN saying that they were handed some super secret RE-redesign photos of Cole, and he’s looking a lot more like the previous game. No images are leaked for public consumption as of this point.

Now that we’ll only have to deal with an entirely new voice actor, inFamous 2 may start to feel like a sequel instead of a spin-off.

Eternal Champions, Kid Chameleon Coming to Steam

Sega was apparently pretty pleased with the sales of their first bundle of Genesis/Megadrive games they released for PC gamers, and are getting ready to drop another hot steaming load of retro goodness.

For $2.99 a pop you’ll be able to snag classics such as Kid Chameleon, Eternal Champions, Bonanza Bros, Columns, and Ecco Jr.

“This is another stunning selection of Genesis classics – we’re happy to be bringing back more of these great memories our fans are asking for,” said Haruki Satomi, Vice President Digital Business at SEGA of America. “By bringing these 16-bit titles back for the first time to PC as downloads, SEGA once again shows how to make timeless masterpieces accessible to anyone at anytime”

Alien Swarm – Now Free On Steam

Posted by DestinedCruz On July - 21 - 2010

This week as promised Valve has released Alien Swarm for free, and it is pretty much the best thing to hit Steam since Left 4 Dead 2.

There. I said it.

Despite the fact that it is incredibly short out of the box, (just a single campaign that took around two and half hours on Hard) it is an incredibly fun four player co-op zombie survival alien blasting experience played from a top down perspective. It also happens to be incredibly pretty to look at (it’s built on the latest version of Source, even newer than Left 4 Dead 2′s version) and comes with the easiest map creator in the world. Expect to see literally hundreds of custom maps, campaigns and mods in the coming weeks following its release. I personally can’t wait to see Left 4 Dead campaigns work their way into this title – zombies and all. That would be so much fun I don’t even know where to begin. Not bad for a free title, eh?

So we have a completely free, professional quality downloadable title (that is shockingly similar to the $15 downloadable Alien Breed: Impact), which also comes with the entire source code and the latest version of Valve’s Source Development Kit.

Everybody with a PC should must download this on Steam (it is completely free), and experience Valve once again raising the bar in the gaming industry. I honestly can’t recommend this game enough. Did we also mention that it is free?

Demon's Souls to Remain Online Until at least March 2011

Posted by mixmoff On July - 21 - 2010

Atlus announced today that the online servers for Demon’s Souls (winner of several Fally awards last year) will remain active in North America until at least March 2011.

In celebration of the announcement, there will be a “Pure White Tendency Event” in the game for the next couple of weeks. This makes the game dramatically easier for new players, and opens up areas in several levels that one can only reach by attaining Pure White Tendency in the given level.

“We are proud to maintain our commitment to the Demon’s Souls online community by extending our support for the game’s servers, allowing current and new players to continue to enjoy the game’s vast online feature set,” stated Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales for Atlus. “One of the highest-rated, most talked about games of all time, Demon’s Souls is defined by its groundbreaking online functionality. No other game better marries suspenseful, claustrophobic solitude with unprecedented cooperative and competitive multiplayer connectivity. Each game world, each individual’s adventure, can be bridged with those of others’, making for one of the most startlingly grand yet deeply intimate RPG experiences ever created.”

This is great news for me personally, as at my rate it will take at least this long to actually finish the game.

Alice: Madness Returns Announced, Trailer Released

Posted by mixmoff On July - 21 - 2010

Ten years after American McGee creeped us all out with Alice, he returns to the series where he made his name. Alice: Madness Returns has been announced by EA and Spicy Horse games, and the launch trailer is everything you’d expect.

Alice: Madness Returns takes place 10 years after the conclusion of the original game, with Alice struggling to recover from the emotional trauma of losing her entire family in a fatal fire. After spending a decade institutionalized in an insane asylum, she is finally released to the care of a psychiatrist who just may be able to help her conquer the nightmarish hallucinations that still haunt her. Alice embarks on a mission to root out the true cause of her family’s mysterious death, jumping from a gloomy and stark London to a rich and provocative Wonderland.

So there you go, your run of the mill happy-go-lucky kids game.
