Thank Mods It's Friday! – Unreal Demolition

Did you ever play Destruction Derby on the PSX?

If you did, you’re probably in the same boat as me, wondering why the hell there has not been a current-gen update for the series in years. If you didn’t, then you really missed out. It’s not a game I would suggest running out and picking up today, as you’re probably going to be sorely disappointed by the dated visuals, terrible physics and awful collision detection, but it’s a real shame you didn’t get to play the game back then. The mod I played this week really brought back fond memories of a time when me and my best friend in high school used to sit in my room playing Destruction Derby 2 for hours seeing how badly we could break the physics and launch the cars or make them do things that really shouldn’t be possible. Short but sweet this week, with the full write-up after the cut. Read the rest of this entry »

Weekend Deal – Overlords In A Crysis

Posted by DestinedCruz On November - 12 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Overlord

Ironically, considering Aevan talked about Overlord 2 on the podcast this week, it seems that Overlord, the expansion pack and Overlord 2 are 75% off this weekend! This means you can pick up all three games for the insanely low price of $8.75!

Also, Crysis and Crysis Warhead are 50% off each… but Crysis sucks, despite looking fancy.

Explosive Beats – Symphony

Posted by DestinedCruz On November - 12 - 20091 COMMENT

So last week, when wading through the vast list of submission for this year’s Independent Games Festival, I took notice of an interesting little game called Symphony. I was a little apprehensive about posting about it here, as Empty Clip Studios, the development team working on it, have not yet released any sort of playable code with which to try the game out. However, I’m breaking down just to tell you all how excited I am for this game.

I adore obscure music games – generally game that take music and do something interesting with it, or games that use music as an integral part of the gameplay experience. Bear in mind, I really don’t enjoy the Guitar Hero games as they really don’t do anything outside of the norm, but I’m thinking more games such as the fantastic Audiosurf, Vib Ribbon, REZ or Gitaroo Man. Symphony is set to be one of those games that I just know I’m going to adore, as it takes your own music files from your computer (everything from MP3s to Ogg Vorbis files) and plays them in the background for a vertical shooter. The interesting thing here, however, is that the enemies you are shooting at will materialise from the music that is being played. The amount of enemies increases dependant on the tempo and amount of instruments of the song, and it looks like a large amount of fun. Also, as you destroy enemies they leave behind items that you collect to increase the size and firepower of your ship.

It’s definitely a game to keep an eye on, and you can follow the development on the Empty Clip Studios website here.

Dr. Ned To Unleash Undead Hordes Soon

Posted by DestinedCruz On November - 11 - 20093 COMMENTS

borderlands-zombie-island

Looks like those who are lucky enough to own a copy of the sublime Borderlands will be getting treated to a vacation on The Zombie Island of Dr Ned on the 24th of this month. It will be available on PS3 and Xbox 360 for $10 (no word on the PC version or how much it will cost yet, much to my dismay).

As excited as I am for the DLC, I am wondering if this new fad for zombie-themed content is going to end any time soon. I know the sheer popularity of Left4Dead is most likely the cause for this, but guys, srsly, there is such as thing as too much.

Also, sorry about the radio silence here at Fall Damage over the weekend. It’s been very busy around here the past few days, what with my day job and the release of Dragon Age and Modern Warfare 2 (more on those soon).

There Will Be No Thank Mods Its Friday This Week

Posted by DestinedCruz On November - 6 - 20091 COMMENT

Sorry guys, but there will be no TMIF today, due to the fact that most of the people I play all of these lovely mods with have been either out of town or unavailable. I will however be raring to go next Friday with a write-up on Unreal Demolition, the mod I planned to be talking about today.

If I do get a chance however, I may still post a belated entry over the weekend if I can get the group together.

I will also be starting an indie game spot over the next few days, so keep checking for an update!

Steam Weekend Deal: Mass Effect $9.99

Posted by Aevan On November - 5 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

MEPIC

Do you love Mass Effect as much as our Podcast Hosts do, but you haven’t had the finances to spare for the 20 dollar game?  Have no fear, mere mortals!!  This weekend Steam [who you all know I love, worship and generally hump when I can] is hacking the price in half just for all you special little snow flakes.  I know I’m snagging it up so I can have my own copy on my own computer instead of constantly having to share Cruz-Face’s.  You should too because there’s really no reason not to.  SO GO BUY IT, support steam, support Bioware…support the collective.
